Description

To ensure seamless booking and test day experiences, we’ve detailed our guidelines on what identification document (ID) you can use for booking and sitting the OET Test.

The ID in your OET account for your OET Test booking must match the ID presented on the test day. It must be one of the accepted forms of ID listed here. To update your details to match your ID, please visit FAQ: 'How can I update my personal details?'

We've detailed the requirements for each identification document below:

1. Valid passport:

A valid passport displaying your full name, date of birth, photograph, and expiry date.

2. Valid national government-issued ID (excluding US test-takers):

Any single form of identification issued by the national government in the country you are sitting the OET Test. Your national ID must include your full name, photograph, and date of birth — all these features must be recorded on one form of national ID. Note: a driver's license is not considered an acceptable form of ID.

  • For OET on Computer at a venue/OET@Home only: where a National ID is not in English, then a certified translated copy will need to be presented along with the original ID on test day.

For example, if you are booking and sitting the OET Test in a country within the European Union, you can use your European Union Card as a national ID.

3. Valid government-issued ID*^ (for test-takers in the US only):

A single form of identification issued by the government must include your full name, photograph, and date of birth — all these features must be recorded on the one form of ID. This option is only available for candidates taking the OET Test in the US.

*A valid ID can be a single form of identification issued by the US government. A valid ID must include: your full name, photograph and date of birth (DoB) – all of these features must be recorded on the one form of national ID.
^Only REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses will be accepted as valid identification. REAL ID licenses display a star in the top corner. Please ensure your ID meets this requirement to avoid issues.

4. Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)  (for test-takers in the UK only):

     Update Effective 28 January 2025:
For candidates holding an expired BRP card, the following options will apply:

    1. Expired BRP Card with Secondary ID: Candidates may bring their expired BRP card along with another form of valid ID. A valid ID must be nationally issued and include the candidate's full name, photograph, and date of birth (DoB).

    2. Expired BRP Card with Authorisation Letter: Candidates may bring an authorisation letter issued by OET along with one form of valid ID meeting the criteria above.

    3. Digital ID/E-Visa  Not Accepted : Please note that diigital ID/e-visas will not be accepted as a form of ID due to security risks associated with bringing electronic devices into the test venue.

What is a valid ID?

For your ID to be considered valid, your ID must not have expired, been cancelled, or made invalid in any other way.

If your ID has expired and you have different ID, update your OET account details. Please visit FAQ: 'How can I update my personal details?'
